Optimizing Multi Source Fuel blending for Diesel Fuels
Why are we involved in this research?
Neither Petroleum Diesel Fuel nor Bio Diesel Fuel offer a realistic long-term solution to domestic diesel fuel needs. Petroleum Diesel Fuel has a host of problems including pollution, high cost, and foreign dependence. Bio Diesel Fuel has its own problems. One problem is that America simply does not have enough farmland to produce the quantity of fuel consumed on an annual basis. Another problem with Bio Diesel Fuel is that it does not work well in cold weather. Additives are generally blended with diesel fuel to make it usable in cold weather applications. A long term solution to diesel fuel needs will need to optimize a fuel that is blended to be low in pollution, that can be mostly produced domestically, can be used in cold weather, and is a cost effective alternative for the consumer.
